网站: www.xincailab.comHow do metabolites function as signaling molecules independent of their metabolism?Metabolites often accumulate during diseases, including cancer, infection, and inflammation. As their names suggest, metabolites undergo enzyme-mediated chemical reactions, which have been studied for over a century. While most studies have focused on their known metabolic functions in cancer and other diseases, we propose that, independent of these functions, metabolites are critical signaling molecules essential for cell-cell communication. Using questions guided by human clinical observations from patients, we conduct hypothesis-driven research through a combination of in vitro and in vivo models. We collaborate with biochemists and structural biologists to develop new methods to study protein-metabolite and RNA-metabolite interactions.
