The Directors of the British School in Colombo, Sri Lanka, are seeking to appoint a Head of Mandarin from August 2023. 

BSC is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders in regulated activity are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and providing an International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC).

The school is a member of FOBISIA.

A. THE SCHOOL 

BSC was founded in 1994 and has a current population of 1400 students of 53 nationalities with 170 academic staff. BSC offers the English National Curriculum, with students entered for Cambridge IGCSE and A Levels.

B. HEAD OF MANDARIN: RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Head of Mandarin will be responsible for leading an important department in this thriving international school. The Head of Department works closely with the Deputy Head (Academic) and the Head of Senior School to provide the leadership and management needed to ensure the success of the school in fulfilling its mission. 

C. HEAD OF MANDARIN: PERSON SPECIFICATION 

BSC is seeking to appoint a leading educationalist with the drive, energy, vision and dedication needed to lead this important part of this thriving, international school. The successful candidate will have outstanding professional skills and personal qualities, with a record of high performance. 

D. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE APPOINTMENT 

The initial contract offered to the successful candidate will be for two years, renewable thereafter by mutual agreement. The attractive compensation package will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and will include:  

• Competitive salary (tax-free) 

• Free fully furnished apartment in an excellent condominium, with swimming pool, gym, café, supermarket, and launderette (no pets allowed)

• Transportation to school

• Flight at the start and end of the contract 

• Annual return flight to the home country or cash allowance 

• Medical cover 

• Freight allowance

• End of Contract gratuity

E. THE APPLICATION PROCEDURE 

Suitably qualified candidates should complete the TES online application form and support the application by uploading the following:       

• a letter of application (no more than two pages), briefly outlining why the candidate wishes to apply for this position, with a clear indication of their approach to school leadership and why they wish to work at BSC. 

Closing date: Friday 27th January 2023

Video interviews will be arranged immediately with selected candidates with the final interviews arranged during February 2023. BSC reserves the right to invite selected candidates to interview in advance of this schedule.
